October 04, 2017: Normal vehicular movement has started from today morning along Agartala-Khowai-Kamalpur road after transport operators obtained assurance of safety from the Police administration. Citing lack of security along the route, vehicle owners and transport Union stopped plying vehicles after September 19 clashes between CPIM and IPFT supporters. In earlier occasions also, vehicles came under mob fury at several places in the route. “Vehicular movement remained stopped from September 19 as security condition along the route deteriorated”, said secretary of Tripura Motor Shramik Union Soumitra Chakraborty. He further said, State Police administration assured about security of vehicles and passengers along the troubled route and henceforth Union has decided to restore vehicle services.
Today morning two vehicles started for Kamalpur from Agartala and vehicles will ply upto 4PM daily, Chakraborty said.
Notably, Agartala-Khowai-Kamalpur via Hejamara route often witnessed violence and mob fury. On September 19, IPFT supporters allegedly launched attacks on vehicles that were carrying supporters of GMP – tribal wing of CPIM to attend a meeting in Agartala. In the clash, around 100 GMP supporters were injured and several vehicles were damaged. On earlier occasions also vehicles and drivers came under attack. “Hope Police administration will be able to ensure safety and security – but unless local people along the route get involved in ensuring smooth passage of traffic, the route will remain susceptible”, said a driver of Agartala.
