After Police picked up Barendra Debbarma – reportedly a hardcore IPFT supporter – in connection with the case, large number of local tribal people, including women gheraoed the Radhapur Police Station. Agitation tribal people were demanding immediate release of the accused.

Instead of a mute spectator, this time Police acted tough and conveyed a strong message to trouble makers. On earlier occasions, Police were in the receiving ends, however, today Police appeared in a different role and started with a mild lathi charge. Sensing that the situation may spill out of control, Police resorted to firing tear gas shells to disperse the agitating mob. Considering the gravity of the situation, the West district administration did not waste time in imposing a prohibitory order- section 144 of Cr.P.C at Radhapur area. Besides, a large number of police, TSR and CRPF personnel were deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
