June 15, 2017: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated the 16th North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Imphal Thursday morning.
The theme of the two-day conference is “North East and Look East Policy.” Ms Mahajan said, North-East India is gateway to Asia and the region has full potential, both natural and human resources, to significantly contribute to the country’s development.
AIR Correpondent reports, the two-day North East Region Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference will deliberate on three significant themes – North East and Look East Policy, special plan for development of railways, airways, surface road and inland waterways connectivity for speedy economic development of North East Region and setting up of a chapter of Speaker’s Research Initiative in the North Eastern Region for capacity building of the legislators of the region and generating research for the North Eastern legislatures.
The Association’s North East Region Chairman and Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Speakers, Deputy Speakers and MLAs of North Eastern States are participating in this Conference.
