Armed gang abducts man in North Tripura, demands Rs 1.5 lakh ransom
A 35 year old person was kidnapped by armed gangs from his residence at Damchhera in Tripura on Friday laste night. The kidnappers asked a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh.
In a reminiscence of the worst old days of insurgency period, a middle-aged man Litan Nath (35) was abducted by a group of armed miscreants from Damcherra’s Katua steel bridge area under North Tripura district late on Friday night. The kidnappers left a ransom note of Rs 1.5 lakh for his safe release.
The North Tripura district police had confirmed the news and said that police were trying their best to trace the kidnappers and secure the release of the hostage.
According to local sources, the incident had triggered shockwaves across the region and the locals were left frightened of the resurgence of the rebel groups in their areas.
The victim’s wife said, at around 12:30 on Friday night, a group of miscreants armed with lethal weapons first came to their house and started calling her husband. They later barged inside the living room and threatened them at gunpoint. Her younger child was kept at the gunpoint and they were asked to give away all their valuables. All the gold ornaments, some cash and whatever they could carry inside their bags were robbed by them, she added weeping before the media persons.
Describing the miscreants, she recounted, all of them were wearing black dresses and were masked. All of them donned caps and had carried lethal weapons along. They talked to each other in language that she failed to recognize but were talking to her and her husband in Hindi, she told the reporters.
She said that the miscreants asked for a ransom amount of Rs 1.5 lakh for safe release of Litan Nath”.
Reacting to the matter, North Tripura district police superintendent Bhanupada Chakraborty said, “we have initiated a probe and search operations are on to trace the kidnapped person”.
The SP was personally leading the investigation.
In the meantime, the abduction triggered high sensation and speculations were rife in the area about the identity of the kidnappers.
