Bamboo lovers across the globe celebrate 12th World Bamboo Day

Global Forum for Sustainable Rural Development joined hands with South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) to celebrate 12th World Bamboo Day in a virtual platform along with Chen Chung University (CCU), Taiwan, National Institute of Design (NID), The Assam Valley School (AVS), and sponsored by CanBoo and Maisang supported by the Japan Bamboo Society, India Bamboo Forum, The Ghana Bamboo Bikes, Regenbiomass, USA, and Bamboo Peckers, Bangalore. 

 

World Bamboo Day is a day of celebration to increase the awareness of bamboo globally. During World Bamboo Congress in Thailand -2009, September 18 as World Bamboo Day was declared by Mr. Kamesh Salam in 2009, President of World Bamboo Organization during 2007–10. 

 

This year, WBD was celebrated with various competitions like photography and comic strip for school children from 8 to 12 grades with a theme of ‘bamboo in indigenous culture’. Other competitions were bamboo product design, furniture design and structure design.

 

Apart from that, bamboo music, bamboo shoot cookery videos, video of bamboo bicycle making in Ghana, about NID Centre for bamboo initiatives and Bamboo Charcoal Innovation Center of Taiwan etc. were showcased along with other distinguished speakers.

 

Another important event was launch of ‘Bamtech app’ developed by South Asia Bamboo Foundation with support of NID Bamboo Centre and CCU Taiwan. Ambassador G.L. Das, IFS and India’ representative to Taiwan was the Chief Guest of the event and released the BAMTECH app. Apart from that Mr. Sapol Boommserak, Director, International Cooperation Royal Thai Forest, key officials from Taiwan, Mr. Praveen Nahar, Director, NID were key speakers. 

 

The event is part of INDIA -Taiwan Global Tech Forum headed by Mr. Kamesh Salam as Co -Chair. This year the 12th World Bamboo Day is being celebrated in Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, India by Bamboo Society of India at various states of India, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, Madagascar, Peru, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, USA and in Europe are celebrating in a big way.

 

This event dedicated to bamboo is growing day by day and it’s now an important event exclusively for promoting Bamboo.
