Boosting trade in NE: First Vyapar Mala Express from Delhi reached Tripura

In an attempt to boost trading activities in North East Region, the Indian Railways operated the first 'Vyapar Mala Express' from Delhi's Kishanganj to Jirania (Tripura). The train covered a distance of 2360 km in only 68 hours and reached Jirania Station on Tuesday.

“Railways ran an Express Service for transportation of less than train load cargo through the first ‘Vyapar Mala Express’. This is a special type of cargo service where traders can book part of the goods carrying rake as per their requirement or supply order. The first train which left from Delhi Kishanganj station of Northern Railway to Jirania station in Tripura under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reached its destination on Tuesday (August 4)”, NFR press release stated.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a tweet hailed the initiative and extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal. In his post, Deb tweeted, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji's vision has made it possible to transform North East and thanks to Railway Minister Shri @PiyushGoyal for operating ‘Vyapar Mala Express’ for transportation of less than full train load. It will surely help small & medium businessmen”.

In the very first such initiative, 46 wagon wheat was loaded from Goniana station of Punjab. Then 10 wagons rice and 2 wagon pulses were loaded from Delhi Kishanganj station by local traders, Chief PRO of NFR Subhanan Chanda said.

The ‘Vyapar Mala Express which started on August 1 last from Delhi Kishanganj station reached Jirania on August 4 morning covering a distance of 2360 kms  in 68 hrs only. So it has now provided ample scope to traders to transport perishable items also through this type of faster and environment friendly mode.

It is evident that this new initiative by Indian Railways provided a golden opportunity for small and medium business houses of the entire N.E. region to further flourish their business activities. Common people will also get benefitted due to reduced cost and time of transportation.
