Braving Corona jolt, Tripura registers growth in GST collection

The GST collection in the State up to September 2020 has crossed Rs 400-crore mark and more business entities could have been brought under the ambit of the GST. Importantly, despite global pandemic and subsequent lockdown, Tripura had registered a 23.37 per cent growth in GST collection in September on a year-to-year basis, said  Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

“The GST collection during the year 2020-21 which includes State Goods and Services Tax and Integrated Goods and Services Tax is Rs.409.19 crore up to the month of September  2020”, he said. 

Besides, a total of 2,002 business entities have been brought under the registration network during the year 2020-21 and the total number of registered taxpayers up to October 18, 2020, is 29,683. 

On GST collection, the Chief MInister said, “During the month of September 2020 the collection figure is noted as Rs.94.9 crore against a collection of Rs. 76.95 crore during September 2019 which indicates a growth of 23.37pc which is definitely impressive taking into consideration the global pandemic situation”.     

The Central Government has released Rs.159 crore during 2020-21 as remaining part of GST Compensation to the State for the year 2019-20. The total GST Compensation for overcoming the shortfall of-revenue due to implementation of GST received for the year 2019-20 is Rs. 293 crore.

“For the year 2020-21 the Central Government has released Rs.35 crores only as GST Compensation during October 2020 out of the total Compensation claim of Rs. 350.11 crore up to the month of September 2020. The State of Tripura has opted for ‘Option 1’ for Compensation mechanism for the year 2020-21 as provided by the Department of Revenue, Government of India”. 

The Taxes Organization of the Government of Tripura – entrusted for collection of GST, Registration of taxpayers, etc. - is taking active participation in the Mukhyamantri Swanirbhar Yojana (MSY) and is demonstrating the essential procedures of GST registration as well as helping the applicants to submit an application for GST registration throughout the State.

Dedicated Return filing helpdesks have been set-up in all Districts of the State to assist the taxpayers in filing returns. 

As recommended by the GST Council the Government of Tripura has issued 46 GST Tax Notifications, 2 GST Rate Notifications, 10 Circulars and 1 Removal of Difficulty (ROD) Order during 2020-21 (up to October 16, 2020).
