Central Govt approves Rs 112 cr State Water Plan (Updated)

The Central Government has approved the State Water Action Plan facilitating water supply to households in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area.  

 

State-water-plan-Tripura-AMCIn a tweet on Saturday, Chief Secretary of Tripura Kumar Alok wrote, “Urban development ministry of GOI has approved state water action plan for Rs 112 crores. This money will be used to provide tap water supply at household level in AMC area”.

 

In a separate Tweet, the Chief Secretary commented on drinking water supply in TTAADC area and wrote, "Under JalJeevan Mission there is plan chalked to provide piped water supply to all rural households in the state including households in TTAADC area.DWS department is working to achieve this objective. Already 50%plus households have been covered. Rest will also get covered soon".

 

It may be noted, the AMC authority has laid emphasis in ensuring water supply in every household under the AMC. A meeting was held between the AMC and the Tripura Jal Board to this end. AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder presided over the meeting.

The Mayor told the media that complaints were received from the residents of Central Zone under the AMC relating to non availability of piped water.

 

He said, several household got the pipe connection – however, the households are not getting piped water supply. The issue needs to be addressed soon, Majumder asserted.

 

The meeting explored the issue in detail and chalked out a plan to ensure availability of drinking water supply in every household.

 

Close on the heels of the meeting between the AMC and the Tripura Jal Board, approval of the State water plan of Rs 112 crore by the Central Government will provide further boost in the efforts of the AMC.

 

During the meeting, the concerned authorities were directed to immediately ensure drinking water supply to those households as well as cover the rest of the areas which are lacking behind.

 

The Mayor further said that a total of 23 numbers of Iron Removal Plants (IRPs) were sanctioned for installation and the work would start soon to ensure that every household in the central zone areas was connected with proper drinking water.
