Complicated Thyroid Cancer patient operated successfully in Tripura

A complicated cancer surgery was successfully operated in the modernized OT facility at Atal Bihari Memorial Regional Cancer hospital in Agartala, Tripura on Tuesday.

The critical surgery added a new feather to the success cap of the hospital which is, of late, in the news after successful introduction of various new equipment and PET scan facility. The surgery that was done on Tuesday lasted for five long hours owing to its complexity and sensitive location of the cancer.

Dr Asish Kumar Gupta, speaking on the matter said, “The patient was a 20 years old girl who was suffering from thyroid cancer. She was once operated on earlier but the disease redeveloped in her thyroid gland in some time. We cleared all the tumor deposits from various parts of the gland. What made the task hard was that some tumor deposits also went very close to the brain. These were attached  with the blood supply line to the brain. After almost a five hour long operation all the deposits were wiped out of her gland and the patient was stable now”.
