HC of Tripura rejects 10323 terminated teachers’ protest plea

The Joint Movement Committee of terminated 10323 teachers moved High Court of Tripura and sought permission to resume their agitation, however, the High Court rejected the petition.

The High Court of Tripura on Monday rejected a petition filed by one Pranab Deb seeking permission to resume peaceful protests by Joint Movement Committee of 10,323 teachers, a government advocate who wished to remain anonymous said.

High-Court-Tripura-10323-teachersThe single Bench headed by Justice SubhasishTalapatra also disposed of the petition adding that it was within the rights of the police whether not to allow such activities considering the public safety, he added.

The Court found no links with the appellant and the JMC. The Court also expressed doubts over the motive of the petition since there was no concrete substance matter of the petition, the advocate said.

The petitioner argued that political parties and other organizations were getting permissions to hold their protests but the Joint Movement Committee was specifically being denied permission. The Court, however, observed that it was the police's right to allow or not to allow any protests considering the public interests.

The 10,323 teachers moved the High Court after being denied by the police to hold demonstrations once again in the city. The police did not allow the movement citing the violent faceoff between police and the teachers that emerged when the first phase of violent protests ended on January 27 last.
