IT pro by day, peak conqueror by passion: Tripura’s Aritra scales Summits in Africa, Europe

Aritra Roy, a fervent adventurer from Tripura as well as an IT professional, scaled the towering peaks of both Africa and Europe, conquering the summits of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe recently. This astounding accomplishment marks him, as probably, the first individual from Tripura to conquer the highest peaks of Africa and Europe continents.

Aritra Roy is an IT professional working with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Bengaluru. Despite his demanding IT profession, Aritra's heart yearns for exploration, particularly in the captivating realm of mountain climbing. His passion for travelling to different countries has seamlessly intertwined with his pursuit of scaling peaks.

Unlike his father, Sanjay Kumar Roy, a revered football coach in Tripura, Aritra's athletic pursuits steered away from mainstream sports. Instead, the allure of mountainous terrains captivated his imagination. Pedalling through hilly landscapes on his bicycle fueled his resolve towards mountain climbing. Gradually, he honed his physical prowess, laying the groundwork for his trekking endeavours.

His current aspiration is to conquer the highest summits across five continents, a goal that beckons him towards new heights.

However, before embarking on this ambitious journey, he acknowledges the need for comprehensive technical training and a thorough mountaineering course, intending to register his name for these crucial preparations.

The hectic nature of his IT profession in Bangalore presents its challenges, with time for training being a scarce commodity. Yet, Aritra remains steadfast, refusing to relinquish his aspirations. He aims to conquer lofty peaks and earn the certification of a seasoned mountaineer, bolstered by good health.

Reflecting on the recent past, Aritra admitted to grappling with the psychological impact imposed during the corona pandemic induced lockdown. After the lockdown was over, he returned to Agartala from Bangalore and was engaged in a regimen of morning exercises, including cycling to successfully overcome the psychological strains.
