SC committee on Farm bills: Govt trying to influence Judiciary system, alleges Tripura CPIM Secy

Attempts have been made to influence the Judiciary system, even make it a ‘compliant’ institution, CPIM State Secretary of Tripura, Goutam Das alleged this in a hard hitting speech in Agartala on Friday.

Das alleged, “Every constitutional institution is crumbling. Federalism is being violated. Even, the Judiciary system has also been made compliant”.

He blamed the Government for ‘influencing’ the Judiciary system while referring to formation of committee by the Apex Court to resolve the stand-off between the farmers and Modi-led Government. He said, the Apex Court loaded the pro-farm bills members in the committee but denied inclusion of noted journalist like P Sainath.

Goutam Das was speaking at a programme held to express solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ agitation in New Delhi demanding repelling the three contentious farm bills. Today’s State level programme was convened by Tripura Left Front committee extending support to farmers’ ‘historic’ agitation. Among others convener of the LF committee Bijan Dhar, leader of the Opposition Manik Sarkar and other leaders also spoke on the issue.

“We have to seriously ponder over the journey of the judiciary system”, he commented relating to present-day functioning of the judiciary system.

In this connection, Das also criticized the Modi-Government and accused the Government of violating federal structure of Indian democracy.

He alleged, “Modi Government does not have a scent respect for rules and regulations. Even as agriculture is a State matter, no State was consulted before preparing the laws. This is an example of ignoring the Federal structure. So far 80 farmers became ‘martyr’ while conducting the protest agitation against the firm bills”.

Condemning the Agri-bills and supporting the farmers’ agitation, Goutam Das claimed that these laws would destroy the farming community of the country as well as affect the consumers.

According to him, these laws will pave away for surrendering our interests to monopolistic capitalists.

“This process of surrender stated in 1991 when Congress Government introduced liberalized economy. Later, liberalizing process gained momentum under RSS-backed BJP Governments. Notably, more than 4 lakh farmers had committed suicide during last 30 years due to such liberalization policies of the successive government”, Das observed.
