Spitting on doctor: 4 accused granted interim bail

In the much talked about ‘spitting on doctor’ case, all the four accused persons including one additional Government advocate had been arrested on Tuesday. However, they were granted an interim bail later by first class judicial magistrate, West Tripura district. Along with them two more people were handed over to police who were accused of misbehaving with doctors at Hapania Covid 19 care center. 

 

The accused persons were identified as Biswajit Das, Milan Das, Ranjit Saha and Karnajit Dey (Govt advocate). They had spat upon an on-duty medical practitioner - Sangeeta Chakraborty while she was discharging her official duty at Bhagat Singh Yuva Aabash Covid Care Center. All the accused were Covid19 positive patients and were lodged at the Covid care Center.   

 

They were kept in a separate room in the Bhagat Singh Covid Care centre after being booked for the incident and when their samples tested negative they were shifted to institutional quarantine at RSTI building in AD Nagar. All of them were handed over to the police on completion of their weeklong quarantine period.

 

The accused were produced before the Court after police got their custody. The Investigating officer prayed for police remand and a subsequent TI parade for better investigation of the case. However, the Court granted interim bail to all the four accused. 


It is also worthy to be mentioned here that the High Court of Tripura had already rejected the anticipatory bail application of the government advocate--Karnajit Dey and asked for a case diary of the matter. The next date of the anticipatory bail plea would come up on Aug 05 next.


Reacting to the issue advocate Samrat Kar Bhowmik who had pleaded the court on behalf of the accused, said, “I have interacted with the accused today. In the court, I have highlighted as to how the entire matter has been produced before the people with a twist. however , the Court has granted an interim bail till August 29 next and the further trial would continue in usual course”.
