BJP MLA breaths fire at Kishan Morcha leader

Bharatchandra Nagar Panchayat Samiti has hit news headlines, once again, for the wrong reasons. BJP MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik said, Kishan Morcha state vice president Manik Das intervened and took the side of the vice-chairman who was facing severe criticism for alleged corruption in multiple cases.

Sources said, after several corruption charges against vice-chairman of the Panchayat Samiti, Dulal Guha came to the fore, eight members including Chairperson of the Panchayat Samiti Putul Pal Biswas brought ‘no-confidence motion against the vice-chairman and submitted a letter to the concerned BDO to this end.

In the meantime, vice president of State Kishan Morcha, Manik Das intervened and allegedly collected signatures of two members forcibly against the Chairperson and prepared a blueprint to bring a no-confidence motion against the elected Chairperson of the Panchayat Samiti. In a press conference, BJP MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik said this in Belonia on Friday and came down heavily on Manik Das.

Bhowmik said, during the Left Regime, CPM expelled Manik Das for corruption. This Manik Das joined BJP and started extortion. Bhowmik also flayed Manik Das for intervening in activities of Mandal, Panchayat and District level.

Traditional Baruni Mela held

Amidst usual fanfare and gaiety, traditional Baruni Mela is being held at Laugang in South Tripura on Friday. Last year, Baruni Mela could not be held due to Corona pandemic – however, this year, even though Covid second wave is staring, the mela is being held and people from all walks have taken part in the mela.

The mela is being held at the confluence of Laugang and Muhuri rivers. Devotees from various parts of Santirbazar sub-division thronged to the mela ground and took a holy dip in the river in the early morning.  Later devotees offered homage (Tarpan) to their ancestors and forefathers.  As per tradition, Ganga puja was held at Ganga Mandir.

Small-time vendors and traders set up makeshift shops at the mela ground.
