Agartala, Jun 16, 2021, ENEWSTIME Desk

All eyes were firmly fixed at BJP main party office in Agartala since morning on Wednesday as Central leaders were holding series of meetings with office-bearers and State leaders and public representatives. All that transpired was that the meetings were held on organizational matters and activities as planned by the party during present Covid situation.

Notably, BJP national general secretary (organization) B.L. Santosh along with two others - party’s North East general secretary (organization) Ajay Jamwal and party’s Assam and Tripura unit organizational secretary Phanindranath Sharma started their two ‘Prabas’ stay in the state.  They held multiple meetings today and some more meetings are on cards for tomorrow.

Apart from meeting BJP State leaders, the central leaders also met IPFT Ministers – NC Debbarma and Mevar Kumar Jamatia, and MLAs in a separate meeting.

After today’s meeting all the State leaders of BJP said that meetings focused on organizational matters without giving any details. Leaders also hinted that discussions were held on party programmes during Covid pandemic situation.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Verma took part in an organizational meeting. Later, Deb was also present in meeting with IPFT leaders.

In a facebook post, Deb wrote, “Attended BJP Tripura Organisational Meeting along with BJP National Gen. Secretary (Org.), Shri BL.Santosh ji, Shri Ajay Jamwal ji, & Shri Phanindra Nath Sharma ji in Agartala today.

Grateful to Sh BL Santosh ji for providing guidance to party MLAs, & senior functionaries during the meeting.”

Commenting on Central leaders’ meeting with IPFT Ministers and MLAs, the Chief Minister wrote, “Held extensive deliberations with the Ministers and MLAs of IPFT in the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary (Org.), Shri BL Santosh ji today. The progress being made under various developmental initiatives of the #Tripura State Government was discussed during the meeting.”

Talking about the meeting State BJP president Dr Manik Saha also reiterated the same thing. However, Dr Saha had to face questions pertaining to possibility of defection of some of BJP MLAs. Notably, after Mukul Roy joined Trinamool Congress in Bengal, there is a speculation that Trinamool would now set an eye on Tripura. Replying on so called defection, Dr Saha said, “There is no report of any BJP MLA going to other party. As of now, all BJP MLAs are with the party. Many things happen in a family and discussions take place— but I don’t think there is any reason to leave the party.”

When asked about the possibility on expansion of cabinet, Dr. Saha replied, “party and the government are two different things. The Chief Minister will think about it. If we need to talk about this on behalf of the organization then we will hold discussions.”

After attending the meeting, Agriculture minister Pranajit Singha Roy said, “it was completely an organizational meeting. The meeting focused on strengthening the party’s base. We mostly discussed on the steps taken by the party to stand by the side of people during Covid crisis.”

During the meetings with MLAs in the BJP state party office, Sudip Roy Barman, Ram Prasad Paul, Ashis Das and Sushanta Chowdhury were among the participants.

Later in the evening, Deb discussed various important issues with the party’s national general secretary at his official residence followed by a dinner.
