Tripura News: Far flung tribal areas get power boost

Long neglected, people of Karbook subdivision under Gomati District in Tripura have a reason to smile as the BJP-led Tripura Government set up a 33 KV power sub-station at Karbook. This sub-station will ensure steady and quality power supply in the sub-division mostly inhabited by indigenous people. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated the Power sub-station on Thursday.

This Power sub-station has been constructed under NEC Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) with financial assistance from the Government of India and the World Bank, Dev Varma said. The total project cost stands at Rs 6.03 crore.

Official sources said, the newly constructed Power sub-station at Karbook will benefit 4625 customers with an improved voltage profile. Areas that will be benefitted include Karbook, Dakshin Karbook, Ichachari, Jalaya, Paschim Karbook, East Karbook, Patichhari, Jenta Twisa etc.

Dev Varma said, steps to set up 34 Power sub-Stations will help in realizing the target of providing electric connections to every household. Besides, he also said power tariff was increased up to around 90 percent by the previous Left Front government during the period 2010-2014. However, considering the interests of the common people, the BJP-led Government has not hiked power tariffs. However, he appealed to people to pay electric bills timely.

“Construction of Power Sub-stations requires huge funds – so, I am urging to everyone to clear electric bills regularly without keeping it pending”, Dev Varma said and advised the Power Corporation to pay attention to regularize bill collection.

Among others, Managing Director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd MS Kele, senior general manager of Power Grid Corporation Ltd S I Singh, MLAs - Burbamohan Tripura and Ranjit Das were present in today’s inauguration programme at Karbook.
