Tripura: Rebel members fall on line, crisis seems to be over for Durgachowmuhani Panchayat Samiti

BJP of Tripura unit sighed of a big relief after five among seven rebel-Panchayat members fell back on track shunning dissidence.

Even before dust of ADC Poll results settled, dissidence brewed at  Durgachowmuhani Panchayat  Samiti under Dhalai district in Tripura.

As many as seven members of the Panchayat Samiti belonging to saffron party brought a ‘no confidence’ motion recently against Panchayat Samiti Chairperson and vice chairperson nominated by their own party. The dissidents brought the motion for alleged ‘autocracy’ of the Chairman and Vice Chairman.

In the wake of no confidence motion, uncertainties prevailed at Durgachowmuhani Panchayat Samiti. The ‘no confidence’ motion instantly became a talking point in the district. Amidst intensified suspense and uncertainties, a twist in emerging events was observed on April 13 evening when five rebel members expressed willingness to change their earlier stance.

As the dissidence appeared, State leaders swung into action. After intervention of the State leadership, ice started to melt as most of the dissidents – five out of seven – agreed to withdraw their dissidence and support the incumbent Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.

“Five dissident members changed their minds and expressed their willingness to work with incumbent Panchayat Samiti”, sources said and added that the initiatives of the State leaders appeared to be successful in averting a political crisis at the Panchayat Samity.

“We are willing to work with the incumbent Panchayat Samity to attain objective of “Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura”, dissidents said.

Sources further added, it seems to be a maiden incident in the district in which most of the rebel changed their decisions and expressed supports for existing Office bearers of the Samity signaling cancelation of ‘no confidence’ motion.
