Tripura: TIPRA-IPFT holds rally for unity of indigenous people

After stepping into the political arena and forging an alliance with ruling coalition partner, IPFT, the Tripura Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) organized its first-ever State-level rally at Khumulwng in West Tripura on Wednesday. The rally witnessed a massive gathering which was addressed by IPFT leaders and TIPRA chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma.

All eyes were firmly fixed on today’s rally as people were expecting details of the alliance, especially the role of the IPFT and TIPRA in upcoming Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls. Forging an alliance with IPFT, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma talked about unity among the indigenous people but did not spell out whether there would be any seat-sharing arrangement between alliance partners of TIPRA.

Tripura-IPFT-TIPRALike Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, leaders of IPFT too did not clear anything about the alliance for forthcoming TTAADC polls. Moreover, IPFT leaders made it clear that they had not severed ties with the ruling BJP. As a result, large-scale confusion prevailed over the nature and status of the alliance and some lights on this issue were expected, Political analysts of Khumulwng opined.

Nevertheless, TIPRA chairman Pradyot Kishore claimed that his dream of “Thansa (Unity)” was almost complete as political identities were not anymore preventing the collective goal of development of the Tiprasa people.

He also sought to keep the IPFT in the right humor saying that people like ‘NC babu and Mevar are aware of the emerging need of unity’. ‘They have not thought about their ministry, they are now thinking about their community, he said and took the credit: It has taken almost two years to make this happen and I have finally convinced everyone to be Tiprasa first before becoming MLA, a minister while addressing the gathering.

He also urged BK Hrangkhwal and Patal Kanya to sit together in order to make the call of “Thansa '' a hundred percent successful.

Apart from Pradyot, NC Debbarma, Mevar Kumar Jamatia and other senior leaders from both the parties TIPRA and IPFT spoke on the occasion.
