Medical sector of Tripura witnessed a scene which may be coined as a reverse trend in the sector. So long, Tripura witnessed outflow of patients suffering from various ailments to other States for availing better treatment facilities. The trend is still continuing – however, a glimpse of a reverse trend, at least, in Cancer treatment raises hope.
One instance of reverse medical journey was recorded after one middle-aged Cancer patient travelled to Agartala from Kolkata for availing Cancer treatment facilities at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center (ABV-RCC).
It is important to note that the patient has no relative or acquaintance in the State.
The Kolkata-based patient came to know about recent up-gradation of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center (ABV-RCC) and decided to fly down to Agartala to avail the advanced treatment facilities at AB-RCC. In a press statement MS of ABV-RCC Dr Goutam Majumder said this on Saturday,
According to the statement, the patient hails from Taltala area in Kolkata and is suffering from Oral cancer since 2018. He used to take different types of chewing tobacco products.
After cancer was detected in 2018, he underwent surgery at a Private Nursing Home in Kolkata. He also received chemotherapy and radiation as part of the treatment. Ironically, cancer relapsed on 2020 and he was, once again, operated upon.
Meanwhile, he got information about ABV-RCC and came to know about introduction of Onco-surgery along with modern facility-fitted OT and installation advanced diagnostic facilities in the Hospital.
It may be noted here that ABV-RCC already had a strong medical Oncology and radiation department. And, after two Onco-surgeons from AIIMS joined the Hospital, quality of treatment got a major boost. Besides, OT was modernized and PET Scan machine along with other sophisticated machines were also installed for advanced diagnosis.
After arriving in Agartala, the Kolkata-based cancer patient underwent several tests at the Hospital on April 1 last and concerned doctors decided to conduct MRI and FNAC tests. Dr Biswajit Debbarma along with Dr Pritesh Rajiv Singh examined the patient.
“As the patient had already underwent surgeries for two times and received chemo and radiation therapies around 3 years ago, a medical board was formed”, Dr Majumder said.
The board comprised of Radiation Oncologist Dr Biswajit Debbarma, Radiologist Dr Priththiraj Sengupta, pathologist Dr Mili Das and Surgical Oncologist Dr Pritesh Rajiv Singh. The board will examine the reports of MRI and FNAC and accordingly take decision regarding his treatment.
