Gangasagar Stampade: WB Govt declares compensation

ProMASS: Jan 16, 2017: West Bengal Government has announced compensation of Rs 5 Lakhs to family members of the people died at Gangsagar stampede in West Bengal. In a tweet News18 reported this today.
Notably, at least six pilgrims including two women reportedly died and 15 others injured in a stampede in Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal on Sunday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness over the loss of lives in Gangasagar stampede. He has sanctioned an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those died in stampede and those injured will also be given 50 thousand rupees each.

However, state government has refuted media report about the incident. State minister for urban development Mr. Firhad Hakeem told news persons deaths have occurred due to extreme cold and not due to any mishap or stampede as reported in some sections of the media.

Maintaing tough stance against PM Modi, He also expressed annoyance at the Prime ministers office granting ex-gratia payments to the next of killed of those killed or injured, without taking the state govt into confidence and without inquiring into the matter.
