Agartala (Tripura), July 4, 2025: The new face in Tripura council of ministers is Kishor Barman.

He was administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu at the Raj Bhavan’s Durbar Hall in the New Capital Complex on today.

With his induction, strength of the State cabinet gains full strength – 12 in 60-seat Assembly.

Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues, MPs and other dignitaries were present in the swearing in ceremony.

However, Opposition parties – CPIM and Congress boycotted the event blaming the ruling party for widespread political violence and oppression targeting opposition workers and leaders.

Soon after the swearing-in, Dr Manik Saha and others congratulated Kishor Barman.

Who is Kishor Barman:

Kishor Barman, 45, a first-time legislator representing the Nalchar constituency in Sepahijala district, is a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also served as one of its General Secretaries.

Prior to Tripura Assembly polls in 2023, Barman was entrusted responsibility of handling BJP’s electoral campaigns in West Bengal during the last Assembly polls there.

Barman got engaged only a couple of days ago and set to be married in November this year.

Notably, Tripura was abuzz with speculations regarding cabinet expansion since July 1. Although, no official announcement was made regarding the new face to be inducted in the State Cabinet. However, there was a strong speculation that Kishor Barman would be the new face and it proved to be true.

With Barman’s induction, Dr Saha-led cabinet has been expanded twice. The first expansion took place on March 7, 2024, when two MLAs from the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, were brought into the council of ministers.

Barman’s reaction:

Speaking to the media following the ceremony, Barman expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the BJP’s central leadership for placing their trust in him by assigning him a ministerial role.
