A towering figure in journalism, Pradeep Dutta Bhowmik, news editor of Dainik Sambad and a revered veteran journalist, passed away on Sunday afternoon, leaving an irreplaceable void in the media world – that’s how Agartala Press Club and the media fraternity described him.
Born on January 1, 1953, in Alikamura village, Maizkhar Union, Chandina Upazila, Comilla District—then part of East Pakistan—Pradeep Dutta Bhowmik’s journey was marked by intellectual rigor and a deep commitment to journalism.
His early education took place at Agartala’s Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan, followed by higher secondary studies in the science stream at Boys Bodhjung School.

In 1973, he earned a bachelor’s degree in science from MBB College in Agartala. That same year, Bhowmik’s association with Dainik Sambad began, guided by the late editor Bhupen Dutta Bhowmik, who mentored him in the craft of journalism.
In 1979, Bhowmik briefly served as a science teacher in Manubazar in Sabroom under the South Tripura District but returned to journalism after two years at the urging of his mentor.
His dedication to Dainik Sambad grew, and in 1988, he was named news editor. By late 1996, he also took on the roles of printer and publisher, responsibilities that he carried out with sincere integrity until his final days.
Dutta Bhowmik had been battling illness for over a month. In early April 2025, he sought treatment in Delhi, where he remained under medical care for three months. His passing has left a profound void in the media community, with outlets like Dainik Sambad, Northeast Colors, and Imprint mourning the loss of a stalwart.

Survived by his wife, son, daughter, and many admirers, Bhowmik’s legacy endures through his contributions to journalism and his influence on those around him. His body is set to arrive at Agartala Airport on July 21, 2025, at 3:00 pm for final respects.
Agartala Press Club and other media organisations expressed profound grief.
