Synopsis by enewstime: On July 4, India solemnly observed the death anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the iconic monk who passed away at the age of 39 in 1902. Widely revered as a champion of self-realization, spiritual awakening, and social harmony, Vivekananda’s teachings continue to influence generations, even in today’s consumer-driven world. His iconic 1893 speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago projected India’s timeless message of unity, peace, and tolerance to the global stage.

New Delhi, July 4: With repeated reference to his immortal exhortation, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached’, country observed passing of Swami Vivekananda at the age 39 on July 4, 1902. Solemn tributes were paid to Swami Vivekananda – a staunch advocate of fearlessness and unity who motivated millions across the globe through his messages of self-realization and social harmony.

Swami Vivekananda’s visions, even at the present highly consumption-driven era, continue to inspire people.

His landmark speech at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893 introduced India’s spiritual wisdom to a global audience. The message of brotherhood, tolerance, and universal peace he conveyed in that address remains iconic.

His teachings, deeply rooted in Indian ethos, still resonate across generations, promoting unity and shared values. His work continues to shape India’s moral and spiritual foundation.

Swami Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Mission on May 1, 1897, with a vision to spread the teachings of his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. The Mission has since been instrumental in promoting education, social service, and spiritual development.

One of his most famous exhortations, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is reached,” continues to encourage the youth to pursue their aspirations with perseverance and unwavering resolve.

Swami Vivekananda was the source of inspiration and courage to many revolutionaries during country’s freedom struggle. For Sri Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas and Bhagat Singh, Swami Vivekananda was light of inspirations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (July 4) paid solemn tribute to Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary, recalling the monk’s timeless contributions to India’s cultural and spiritual legacy.

Currently on a diplomatic tour across five nations, PM Modi took to his official X handle to honor the revered philosopher. “On Swami Vivekananda Ji’s Punya Tithi, I offer my respectful homage. His ideas and vision continue to illuminate our path. He instilled pride in our civilizational heritage and emphasized a life dedicated to service and compassion,” the Prime Minister posted.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also honored the memory of Swami Vivekananda, calling him the harbinger of India’s intellectual and spiritual resurgence. “Swami Ji awakened the nation’s soul and revived its cultural pride. He motivated the youth with courage and conviction and highlighted the importance of education in nation-building,” Shah wrote on X.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed similar sentiments, calling Vivekananda a beacon of hope for young minds across the globe. “He inspires not only India but youth worldwide. We are devoted to realizing his vision of a progressive, prosperous India,” Singh said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also commemorated the day, reaffirming her commitment to preserving Swamiji’s legacy. “Swamiji’s teachings of universal brotherhood and peace are timeless. The inclusive and humane Hinduism he preached is the same belief I follow. I dream of a Bengal and an India where people of all backgrounds coexist with respect and love,” Banerjee shared on X.

A follower of Sri Ramkrishna order in Agartala said, Swami Vivekananda left his body in a yogic state – however, despite his physical departure, Swami Vivekananda’s spirit, visions and timeless contributions will guide us.

As the nation remembers Swami Vivekananda, his ideals continue to shape India’s journey toward unity, enlightenment, and progress. (Edited)
