Agartala, September 05, 2019: A seven-member delegation team of Jampui Hill meet the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today (5 Sept) to press for their 40 year-long demand for the creation Jampui Hill Autonomous Regional Council, and submit a 15-page long memorandum. The nearly one-hour long bilateral discussion primarily focuses on the Regional Council and other issues like road infrastructure, customary law, and change of ‘Lushai’ to ‘Mizo’ in the ST list.
The Mizo delegates pressed for immediate constitution of a Commission on Regional Council, which the CM responded by an assurance to initiate internal consultations with his Secretaries and Officers on the Mizo’s reguest.
The Chief Minister in his official facebook page wrote, “Met the delegation team of Jampui Hill today along with Minister Miss Shantana Chakma ji. Had productive discussion with them regarding various ongoing issues.”
“We are happy with our meeting with the Chief Minister, it was cordial, frank, and serious looking together at core issues. We are positive as this is the first time after a gap of 30 years we have a Chief Minister who is willing to look into the core issue as per the merit it deserves”, says Dr Zairemthiama Pachuau, General Secretary of Mizo Convention.
