Amidst resentment among a section of guardians over the decision of some of the Private School authorities relating monthly fee, State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath held a meeting with the representatives of private run CBSE and TBSE board affiliated institutions in Shiksha Bhawan in Agartala on Thursday.
During the meeting, Nath placed some propositions before the representatives aiming to lessen financial burdens of guardians of students who are studying in private schools. The Education Minister was apprised about the role of the private schools in this Covid time.
Highlighting cost of burden on people during the Covid crisis, the Minister urged the Private run School Authorities to come forward with positive outlook considering the plight of guardians.
Nath placed some proposals before the private-run schools that included reduction in transport fee (school bus fare) by 60 percent. He also appealed to the private school representatives not to increase the tuition fees and not to take other fees except tuition fee.
Addressing the meeting, Nath said, “like other sectors, the education sector has also been affected by the Covid pandemic. We have to overcome this situation together. In this context, the private-run schools have a major role to play.”
Later, Nath in a social media post wrote, “Chaired the meeting with the Principals/Headmasters of 17 privately managed unaided schools and had a wide discussion with them regarding reducing of Annual Fees, Tuition Fees and Transportation Fees. I appreciate their concerns about the financial conditions of the guardians of the children during this pandemic. In this regard Education Department has requested them to reduce the Transportation charge to at least 60% and also not to make any hike in any form of fees than the previous year.”
Meanwhile, Director of Education U.K. Chakma had asked the representatives to apprise the department about the steps they had taken to reduce financial burden on the guardians, in written. Chairman of Higher Education Council- Arunoday Saha and other officials were present in the meeting.
