Sukumar Chandra Dey – father of Assitant General Secretary of Agartala Press Club Ramakanta Dey – passed away on Friday evening. Late Dey was a retired Police Officer and he 82 years old. He is survived by his wife, two sons daughter in-lawsand many of relatives as well as well wishers. He breathed his last at a private Hospital in Agartala at around 4.40pm today.
Agartala Press Club, Media bodies including Tripura Journalist Association condoled the demise of Sukumar Chandra Dey and extended sympathy to bereaved family members.
Renew PM’s Insurance scheme by May 31: TGB
The last date of Renewal of Prime Minister’s Security Insurance Schemes for FY 2021-22 is May 31 next.
For continuation of the Insurance facilities, the beneficiaries need to deposit Rs. 330 for PMJJBY and Rs. 12 for PMSBY in their respective bank accounts by May 31. If anyone fails to renew it, all the benefits of the insurance will be canceled. These are social security insurance schemes, with a security cover of Rs 2 lakh for each beneficiary. According to Tripura Gramin Bank sources, 24 accident insurances and 115 general insurances have been settled and credited to the nominees’ accounts at the rate of Rs 2 lakh each in the last financial year. These two insurance plans provide social security.
Scanty rainfall puts farmers in a fix
Scanty rainfalls have put farmers of Dewanbasha area in the North District under a distressful situation. Last year, the State received almost adequate rainfall and there was no problem in cultivation. However, this year the picture is different with dried-up croplands and various vegetable crops have been scorched due to heat, farmers of Dewanbasha Ward No 3 said.
“Due to inadequate rainfall, we are unable to start sowing paddy as of now. Moreover, several other vegetables that we have cultivated are scorched resulting in complete or partial damage of the crops”, said one of the farmers.
Sources said, the farmers of Dewanpasha were urging for a water pump in the area for ensuring irrigation. They were raising the demand for the last 20-25 years. However, their demand is yet to be fulfilled.
“With fewer rains and no water pump for irrigation, we manually carry water from nearby rivulet and try to irrigate our fields – however, this is insufficient and less effective in case of drought-like situation”, farmers commented and expressed hope that Biplab Deb led Government would meet their demand for a water pump machine at the earliest.
