The 31st National Conference of State Election Commissions convened from March 1 to March 4 at MPT Kipling’s Court in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh. Election officials nationwide took part in the conference to explore advancements in electoral governance.
The event provided a vital platform for collaboration and innovation in addressing contemporary electoral challenges.
Tripura was represented National Conference of State Election Commissions by State Election Commissioner Sharadindu Choudhury and Commission Secretary Asit Kumar Das, who joined election commissioners, secretaries, and senior officials from across India.
The conference focused on strategies to tackle obstacles faced by local bodies during elections, reforms to streamline electoral processes, and the adoption of cutting-edge technology to boost transparency and efficiency.
According to an official Press Release issued by Tripura State Election Commission, the officials of the State Election Commission showcased a documentary on its electoral management initiatives. The presentation spotlighted an online application, developed in partnership with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), that provided real-time access to results from the General Panchayat Elections 2024.
It also showcased voter education programs held in colleges and schools across Tripura, designed to engage students—especially first-time voters—by deepening their understanding of democracy and the commission’s role.
Further enriching the dialogue, the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission staged a live demonstration of a paperless polling station, showcasing how digital tools can simplify voting processes.
The feasibility of online voting for local elections emerged as a key discussion point, with its potential to enhance transparency and accessibility taking center stage.
The conference also welcomed leading tech organizations, including the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and ITI Limited, Bangalore.
Representatives from these institutions shared insights on leveraging Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and emerging technologies to modernize elections, sparking robust exchanges on their practical implementation.
