October 15: In Punjab, Congress candidate Sunil Jakhar today won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll by defeating his nearest rival, BJP nominee Swaran Salaria with a margin of 1,93,219 votes.
Mr. Jakhar polled 4,99,752 votes while Mr. Salaria polled 3,06,533 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nominee Major General (Retd) Suresh Khajuria was at the third sport with 23,579 votes.
Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh said Congress candidate’s win is a victory for the development agenda.
Bypoll in Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat was necessitated following the death of BJP MP Vinod Khanna. (AIR News)
