Tripura Government has made special arrangements for safe evacuation of State’s students stranded in violence-hit Manipur.
Three special flights of Indigo has been arranged to bring back the State’s stranded students. Besides, a special team has been sent to Manipur on Saturday (May 6) by the Tripura Government for coordinating the evacution.
Addressing a press conference in Agartala today, Tripura Chief Minister said, “A total of 208 students will be brought back in three special flights of Indigo arranged so far. The first flight carrying 171 students will reach the state on Saturday midnight (12.15 am).”
In a social media, Dr Saha also wrote, “In continuation of the sincere efforts to help the students of Tripura studying in Manipur, a special team has been sent by the Govt of Tripura to Manipur for coordinating & bringing back Tripura’s students. Besides, necessary arrangements have been made to bring them back by flight at the earliest,”
The Chief Minister and the State Government as a whole are in touch with the Manipur government to ensure safety and security of the State’s students studying in different RIMS and other institutions in Manipur.
Dr Saha personally talked to his Manipur counterpart N. Biren Singh in presence for guardians of the state’s students. The guardians also talked with the Manipur Chief Minister. Besides, the State Government also opened helplines so that stranded students seek assistance in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile, Dr. Saha also had a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the same issue.
Reiterating that safe return of the students is the priority, Dr Saha reassured the parents of the starnded students that arrangements had been made to bring back the students at the earliest.
One Indigo flight operates between Imphal and Agartala – however, it was reported air tickets for immediate bookings were not available. To overcome this issue, Tripura Chief Minister arranged three speacial flights in consultation with the Civil Aviation Mininstry.
Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan and Secretary to Information and Cultural Affairs department P.K. Chakraborty were also present in the press conference.
