ProMASS News Bureau: Aug 25, 2016: Referring to violence and arson during Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) rally in Agartala on Aug 23, 2016, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar informed here today, the State Government has decided conducting a Magistrate-level probe into the violence. He added, the District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura Dr M Ramteke has been directed to submit report to this end within a month. On Aug 24, FIR had been lodged under various section of IPC.
Coming down heavily of IPFT, Mr Sarkar said, the leadership of IPFT assured about maintaining peace and order during talks with Police administration. However, the leadership failed to honour their assurance. Mr Sarkar commented, IPFT planned to destroy the democratic practices and create large-scale mayhem in the name of demand for separate State for tribal people of Tripura. He praised efforts of peace loving people in tackling the lawlessness despite huge provocation.It may be noted, IPFT supporters burnt several bikes, cars and damaged shops. In retaliation, mob attacked and set buses ablaze that ferried IPFT supporters to Agartala. Tribal Students wing of ruling CPI-M has strongly condemned violence and arson created by unruly IPFT cadres and urged to ensure peace and tranquility.
In a press conference, BJP State President Mr Biplab Deb demanded CBI inquiry and informed, a memorandum to this end had been handed over Union Home Minister. Highlighting failure of Police administration Mr Deb demanded resignation of State Home Minister. State unit of Trinamool Congress has sent a delegation to the Governor Mr Tathagata Roy and demanded inquiry by a High Court Judge.
Notably, in two other previous rallies, unruly IPFT supporters tried to create panic and lawlessness. Urging people to maintain peace and harmony, the Chief Minister informed, no untoward incident has been reported during last two-days. He also cautioned about spreading rumour and disturb communal harmony.
Meanwhile, IPFT leadership held a press conference here on Aug 24. The leadership, seek apology for arson like previous occasions.
