Assam’s Majuli all set to be first island district of the country

ProMASS News Bureau: Aug 31, 2016: In Assam, Majuli is all set to be the first island district of the country. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has said that on 8th of September the river island Majuli will be upgraded to a district from sub-division.  He said that in a move to take governance near to the people, the cabinet meeting will be held at Majuli on 7th of next month. Majuli covers an area of around 340 miles and one of the prime tourists destination of North East.  Nearly 1 lakh 60 thousand people reside at the Majuli river island. The first cabinet meeting of Srabanand Sonowal government has decided to upgrade Majuli as a district.
