ProMASS: Jan 21, 2017: The ordinance paving way for resuming Jallikattu game in Tamil Nadu is expected to be promulgated today, with the Governor-in-charge Vidyasagar Rao is arriving Chennai this evening. The draft of the ordinance was approved by the Union Home Ministry yesterday.
Chief Minister O Paneerselvam has appealed to youngsters and all organizations to call off their protest as jallikattu will be held in a day or two.
Meanwhile, continuous protests by college students, youth and housewives are going on in Chennai Marina Beach, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and many other places since last Tuesday. Black clad youth are spilling over the Marina Beach in Chennai urging revival of the traditional game Jallikattu for the fifth day. At Alanganallur in Madurai, which is one of the epicenters of the game, women are also pouring in large numbers.
The DMK is staging fast in Chennai in a separate platform, seeking a permanent solution to the issue. The spontaneous demonstrations of the youth is getting sustained with growing support on the ground from elders, women and children.
In Puducherry also students continue to sit in Dharna at Anglo-French Textiles Maidan demanding repeal of the ban on Jallikkattu.
