ProMASS: Jan 24, 2017: A convoy of trucks and oil tankers were ambushed by suspected militants today along National Highway connecting Assam with Imphal, Police sources said. However, there were no casualties despite heavy exchange of fire between security personnel and militants.
Sources said, around 300 trucks and oil tankers were proceeding from Jiribam under armed escort. The convoy was attacked near Khongkhang around noon, sources added.
It is learnt that militants’ bullets punctured a tank of an oil tanker, however, it did not explode. Notably, similar attacks took place on earlier occasions too.
Refrring to the militant attack, the Manipur Government has said, it requested Central Govt to depute 60 companies of security forces, however, only 29 companies were sent to escort vehicles along the National Higway.
