May 25, 2017: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed on need to bring all hospitals specializing in cancer treatment on a single platform to provide affordable treatment to cancer patients. He said, every year 10 lakh people are affected by cancer out of which 6.5 lakh patients die.
Addressing a function on the occasion of platinum jubilee of Tata Memorial Centre through video conference from his residence in New Delhi, he said his government is committed to spend 2.5 percent of GDP on health and allied sector.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the measures taken by his government to bring health facilities closure to doorstep people and provide affordable medical care.
He said, new AIIMS are being opened in different parts of the country and medical facilities in the existing hospitals are being modernized. Mr Modi said, government has brought 5000 drugs in the list of essential medicines for the purpose of controlling their prices. He said, more and more outlets are being opened under Jan Aushadhi Yojana.
