Agartala Feb 13: The Tripura government has doubled down on skill incentives while launching a salaried healthcare training programme aimed at expanding women’s participation in the workforce.

The objective is to provide a strategic push to link competitive success with real employment pathways.

At a felicitation ceremony for winners of the Regional IndiaSkills Competition 2025–26, Industries Minister Santana Chakma announced that the state will match the prize money awarded by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). Regional medalists receive Rs. 75,000 for Gold, Rs. 50,000 for Silver, and Rs. 25,000 for Bronze from NSDC, and Tripura will provide an equal amount as additional incentive under the Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP).T

Tripura participated in 16 trades with 28 contestants in the regional competition held in Assam, securing 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 1 Medallion of Excellence.

Tripura participated in 16 trades with 28 contestants in the regional competition held in Assam, securing 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 1 Medallion of Excellence.

Seventeen candidates have qualified for the national round, including 13 direct entrants in emerging domains such as Cyber Security, Industry 4.0, ICT Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, and Digital Construction.

Officials described the move to double incentives as part of a broader strategy to motivate youth participation in high-demand technical trades while positioning the state strongly in the national skilling ecosystem.

In a parallel initiative, the minister launched an eight-month on-the-job General Duty Assistant training programme for 100 candidates. The initiative primarily targets women.

Implemented under MMDUP in collaboration with Swadhin Trust, the programme offers a minimum monthly stipend of Rs. 8,000 during training and assured placement in the healthcare sector with a starting salary of at least Rs. 10,000 upon completion.

The initiative is expected to address two key challenges simultaneously — enhancing employability among young women and strengthening frontline healthcare support services across the state.

Further expanding its employability focus, the government also introduced a Soft Skills and Interview Preparedness Course for 200 students from Government Degree Colleges.

Delivered through 28 live online one-on-one modules, the course aims to build communication skills, professional behaviour, and interview readiness.

With performance-linked incentives and paid training opportunities rolled out together, Tripura’s latest skill development push signals a shift from certification-based recognition to income-linked empowerment.
