Agartala, August 16: An alleged attack on a family at Kalachhari in Manu under Sabroom has drawn the attention of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha after a social media appeal by Dr. Paramita Sen. The family has alleged assault, vandalism and death threats by two neighbours.

Dr. Paramita Sen raised the allegations through a Facebook video post. She said her parents and brother were at their Kalachhari residence when the incident took place on the night of Independence Day.

She was in Kolkata at the time. Concerned about the safety of her family, she appealed to Dr. Manik Saha through social media for immediate intervention.

Family Alleges Attack and Vandalism

According to Dr. Sen’s account, two neighbours, identified as Biswajit Debnath and his brother Apu Debnath, allegedly entered the family premises in an intoxicated condition.

She alleged that the two men first damaged the main gate and other parts of the property. They then allegedly abused and assaulted family members.

Dr. Sen also alleged that the two men issued death threats. She said her parents and brother continued to stay at the residence and needed protection.

The allegations reportedly stem from an ongoing boundary dispute between the families.

Dr. Sen has sought a proper investigation and strict action against those responsible.

Gita Sen Describes Incident

Dr. Sen’s mother, Gita Sen, also shared her account of the incident on social media.

She alleged that the two brothers had been harassing the family for a long period. She further alleged that Biswajit Debnath had attacked her about a year ago when she was alone at home.

According to Gita Sen, the two men returned to the house on Saturday night. She alleged that they damaged the gate before entering the premises.

She said she, her husband and their son were abused and assaulted during the incident.

Gita Sen also alleged that her clothes, spectacles and necklace were pulled and damaged during the confrontation.

The family further alleged that the accused claimed political backing and threatened that no one would be able to take action against them. These claims have not been independently established.

CM Dr Manik Saha Seeks Details

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has taken note of the allegations.

When asked about the incident, Dr. Saha referred to his Independence Day speech at the Agartala Press Club. He explained that the state government monitors media reports and uses its Task Monitoring System to communicate with concerned departments.

Dr. Saha said he had come across Dr. Sen’s social media post. He subsequently directed the concerned officials to obtain details about the incident.

The Chief Minister made it clear that the allegations must first be verified.

He said that if the allegations are found to be true, action will follow according to the law.

His response has placed the reported incident under closer administrative attention.

Police Complaint Reportedly Filed

A written complaint has reportedly been submitted to the police against Biswajit Debnath and Apu Debnath.

Reports also indicate that the accused have approached the police with a counter-complaint. The rival complaints mean that investigators will have to examine the claims of both sides before determining the facts.

The reported presence of the Kalachhari police outpost near the location has also raised questions about the police response to the alleged incident.

Delegation Visits Family

Meanwhile, a delegation led by former MLA Prabhat Chowdhury visited the residence of Mrinal Sen, Dr. Paramita Sen’s father, on Sunday morning.

The delegation met the family members and discussed the reported incident. It also assured the family of support.

The allegations have meanwhile triggered concern over the safety of the family and the broader law-and-order situation in the area.

With the Chief Minister directing officials to verify the incident, attention now remains on the police investigation and the evidence gathered from both sides. Any further action is expected to depend on the findings of the authorities.
