Tripura has taken another step towards expanding skill development and employment opportunities for rural youth with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday. The initiative focuses on equipping rural youth with job-oriented skills and creating pathways to sustainable employment.
Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, CEO of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), attended the programme. The Additional CEO and Chief Operating Officer (Skills) of TRLM also participated.
District Mission Coordinators (DMCs) and Block Programme Managers (BPMs) from all districts joined the event. Project Heads, Directors and CEOs of all 13 Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) also participated in the ceremony.
17 Projects Sanctioned for Rural Youth
Under DDU-GKY 2.0, TRLM has sanctioned 17 projects to 13 PIAs. The projects cover a diverse set of job roles and trades linked to different employment sectors.
The training areas include Telehealth Services Coordinator, Cosmetologist, Warehouse Executive and Multi-Skill Technician for Home Appliances.
The programme will also train candidates as Retail Sales Assistants, Solar Lighting Assemblers and Counter Sales Executives in the tourism and hospitality sector.
Other job roles include Receptionist, Retail Sales Executive, Guest Service Associate in Food and Beverage, Assistant Electrician, Field Technician for Computing and Peripherals, and Solar PV Module Manufacturing Technician.
The wide range of courses is designed to provide rural youth with practical skills across service, retail, hospitality, electrical, technology, logistics and solar-related sectors.
Training Centres in Four Locations
The programme will operate through training centres in Tripura and outside the state.
Agartala will have multiple training centres. Udaipur in Gomati district will have one centre. One centre each will also operate in Kolkata and Guwahati.
Training will commence from October 2026.
The inclusion of centres in Kolkata and Guwahati will allow the programme to deliver training beyond Tripura while continuing its focus on rural youth from the state.
Focus on Industry-Relevant Skills
DDU-GKY 2.0 under TRLM focuses on industry-relevant training and employment-oriented skill development.
The sanctioned projects cover job roles that range from telehealth services and home appliance maintenance to retail, tourism, hospitality, electrical work and renewable-energy-related manufacturing.
