Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala has expanded its medical infrastructure with the inauguration of a catheterisation laboratory, an integrated service laboratory and two intensive care facilities. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the facilities on Wednesday as part of the hospital’s 66th foundation day celebrations.

The new infrastructure aims to modernise diagnostic and critical-care services, improve treatment for seriously ill patients and reduce the need to refer patients to other hospitals. The projects include investments in advanced cardiac care, integrated laboratory services and dedicated intensive care beds.

GBP Hospital Adds Advanced Cardiac and Diagnostic Services

Dr Manik Saha inaugurated a catheterisation laboratory (Cath Lab) at the hospital’s Super Speciality Block. The facility cost approximately Rs 10.10 crore and marks a major addition to the hospital’s advanced medical infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a new integrated service laboratory, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3.05 crore. The laboratory brings microbiology, biochemistry and pathology services under one roof.

The integrated facility aims to make diagnostic services faster, more efficient and reliable. It will help streamline laboratory testing and support timely clinical decisions.

The hospital also plans to integrate the laboratory with the Integrated Health Information Management System (IHIMS). This step is expected to strengthen digital healthcare services and improve the management of diagnostic information.

New Surgical ICU and Medical ICU Inaugurated

The Chief Minister inaugurated a 12-bed surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the hospital’s NTH-1 building. The project cost approximately Rs 3.02 crore.

GBP Hospital also opened a 14-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative supported by HDFC Bank. The project involved an estimated expenditure of Rs 3.07 crore and comprises two units of seven beds each.

These facilities will expand the hospital’s capacity to treat critically ill patients. The additional intensive care beds are expected to support timely medical intervention and improve access to specialised treatment.

The new infrastructure may also help reduce referrals to other hospitals by strengthening GBP Hospital’s capacity to manage patients who require intensive monitoring and care.

Dr Saha thanked HDFC Bank for supporting the MICU project through its CSR initiative. He said the new facilities would make advanced and timely treatment more accessible to patients.

CM Reaffirms Commitment to Healthcare Modernisation

Addressing the foundation day programme at the KLS Auditorium in the evening, Dr Saha paid tribute to the doctors, visionary leaders and others whose dedication and sacrifices contributed to the establishment of GBP Hospital.

He highlighted the significance of the newly inaugurated Cath Lab and integrated service laboratory in improving treatment for critically ill patients. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure and modernising medical services.
