December 10, 2018: INPT sponsored dawn to dusk rail-road blockade has been withdrawn after hectic parleys between the administration and party leaders. However, normal vehicular movements along Assam-Agartala National Highway came to a grinding halt while Rail services were also affected. Agitating leaders and activists courted arrests.
INPT called for 12-hour blockade programme demanding to roll back the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. Since last night, INPT activists assembled at in Ambassa, Khamtingbari at Baramura and Hezamara in West Tripura district. Leaders reached the spots and started the blockade programme affecting movements of all types of vehicles.
Unprecedented security arrangements were made at the agitation spots.
Later, SP Ajit Pratap Singh and SDM (Sadar) Subhasish Bandopadhayay initiated talks with INPT leaders to end the blockade. At last, INPT leaders convinced the stand of the administration and conceded to arrest.
“The Assam Agartala national highway has been cleared restoring resumption of vehicular movements on the state life line”, said an official.
When contacted, a senior police officer said there was no response to rail and road blockade in Ambassa and Hezamara. However, agitators put up blockade on rail tracks at Brighudasbari in Jirania subdivision.
“Railway track will be cleared very shortly”, Police sources said.
