Agartala, Feb 03, 2019: A two day “RANGLONG KHOHUI (Cultural Festival) was held at Seisimdung Village (Indurail) at Panisagar under North Tripura district on the January 22-23, 2019. Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, Shri Jishnu Dev Varman graced the occasion as Chief Guest on the opening night of the festival and local MLA, Binay Bhushan Das graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.
With utmost respect and courtesy to the Royal origin of Dev Varman, the Ranglong community displayed their grand welcome by ferrying him from the main entrance of the festival campus till the stage with a traditionally crafted Royal Palanquin.
The second day of the festival entertained the crowd with all types of traditional games, cultural dances and folk song performed by various artist of the community. However, the main highlight of the occasion was the “Ranglong Khohui Miss & Mister” contest which was a huge crowd puller and dragged the program to the wee hour of the last night. Miss Nisha Ranglong (Halam), a Bsc (Physic Honors) Second semester student hailing from Sobiri village of Karimganj District of Assam won the coveted title of Miss Ranglong Khohui 2019.
Nisha had earlier participated in the National Science exhibition, “Solar food dryer” Delhi, 2014 and National Science Congress-2014-15 Junior Scientist Chandigarh. On the other hand Alfred Lamhuilian Ranglong (Halam) a Law student of Guwahati, hailing from Seisimdung, North Tripura won the Mr. Ranglong Khohui 2019.
Besides, the community from many localities set up their respective food stall serving all types of traditional dishes to promote their distinct cuisine.
The Ranglong Youth Association and the Ranglong Khohui (Cultural Festival) Organizing Committee conveyed their special thanks to the Tribal Research & Cultural Institute, Information & Cultural Affairs, Youth Affairs & Sports, Information Cultural Affairs & Tourism (TTAADC) & North Eastern Council who were the main sponsors of the festival.
