PM wants 50% farmers to join Crop Insurance Scheme in next 2 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought peoples participation to include at least 50 per cent of the country’s farmers in the recently launched crop insurance scheme Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana within next two years.

Addressing the 16th edition of Mann Ki Baat on AlR, Mr Modi said, this was a huge gift to farmers. He said, procedures of the scheme has been simplified by using technology and the premium has also been lowered. Speaking about the importance of Khadi, the Prime Minister said, it is likely to generate 18 lakh man days of employment. Mr Modi said, Khadi can employ millions of People and recently, the Ministry of Railways, Police, Indian Navy, the postal department of Uttarakhand and many departments have taken steps to promote Khadi. Quoting Sardar Patel, the Prime Minister said, India’s freedom is in khadi and India’s civilisation and non violence is also in khadi. He said, the farmers’ welfare is also in khadi and it is now becoming the center of attraction for the younger generation.

The Prime Minister said, recently launched Start Up India programme will give countless opportunities to young people. He said, start up India is not limited to initiatives in the IT sector alone. He gave examples how some IIM graduates are doing start up business in Sikkim. Prime Minister praised Haryana and Gujarat for unique idea to promote Beti Bachao Beti Padhao by allowing villages most educated girl to hoist flag at Republic Day events. He congratuled Haryana for improving the child sex ratio in the state. Speaking about the International Fleet Review, which is being organised in Visakhapatnam from February 4th to 8th, Mr Modi said it is an effort towards coordinating the world’s military power with India.

He said South Asian Games will be held in Guwahati from February 5th where thousands of athletes from SAARC countries are coming to participate. Mr Modi said this is a good opportunity to strengthen relationships with SAARC countries. Now people can listen Mann ki Baat anytime anywhere on their mobile phones by giving a missed call on 8190881908. Presently this facility is only in Hindi but soon it will be available in other Indian languages. Prime minister has urged people to observe two minutes silence every year at 11 AM on January 30 to pay tribute to the martyrs of the country.
