Agartala, August 26, 2019: The Election Commission of India ECI) announced today bye-poll for 14-Badharghat assembly constituency under West Tripura on September 23 next. Also, ECI announced schedules for bye-elections of Dantewada (ST) of Chattisgarh, Pala of Kerala and Hamirpur of Uttar Pradesh.
In Tripura, 14-Badharghat assembly constituency fell vacant following death of the MLA- Dilip Sarkar – on April 1 last.
As per schedule, declared by the ECI, all of these four constituencies would go to bye-polls on September 23 next and counting would take place on September 27 next.
The gazette notification on the bye-polls would be issued on August 28 next and the entire bye-election process
would come to an end on September 29 next.
The last date for submission of nominations would be September 04 and scrutiny of the nominations would take
place on September 05, next.
The last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be September 07.
The ECI has decided to use EVMs and VVPATs in the bye-election in all the polling stations.
In consonance with the past practice, the ECI has decided that the voter’s identification shall be mandatory in the
aforementioned election at the time of poll. Electoral Photo Identity cards (EPIC) shall be the main document of
identification of a voter.
However, in order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his/her franchise, if his/her name figures in the electoral
rolls, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters at the time of polling.
