Agartala, August 28, 2019: Surgeries have remained suspended in North Tripura District Hospital for last one week – thanks to alleged negligence of power department. It is learnt, power lines to Operation Theatre (OT) of the Hospital developed snags a week ago. With stand-by generator is out-of-order, Hospital authority had to suspend surgeries – barring few minor ones – causing resentment among the patients.
Hospital sources said, some faults were detected in the transmission lines and electric department was promptly informed – however, no one bothered to repair the ‘faults’ and restore power supply in last 7 days.
“There is a generator for emergency supply – however, it was rendered non-functional after the Hospital had obtained ‘emergency connection line’. With no-generator and no provision available to ensure power supply, Surgeons have stopped conducting surgeries on patients”.
Considering gravity of the situation Deputy Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen held meetings with the Hospital and electric department officials. “Even after Sen’s intervention, no action was taken to restore normalcy. Present situation hints at possibility of deliberate attempt by some unscrupulous people to stop Operations in the Hospital for vested interests”, alleged a Dharmanagar resident.
