Agartala, September 23, 2019: Tripura people are now pushing for community level development for holistic growth – a distinct shift in attitude of common people is obvious as people are now increasingly emphasizing on collective development for individual’s growth, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said this after attending ‘Janatar Darbar’ at Damchhera Community hall in North Tripura today.
He also said, not a single person complained about sufferings due to lack of food, even in remote areas. In this context, he took a jibe at opposition party leaders who often raise allegation of hunger and lack of food in hilly areas. He urged Opposition leaders to visit and interact with villagers instead of issuing statements sitting in Agartala.
Referring to issues raised in Janatar Darbar, Deb said, “Common people – mostly belonging to indigenous communities – raised demands pertaining to school and education, health care services etc while many others pointed out issues like maintenance and improving road connectivity and administrative structures to expedite service delivery at the grass root level. All these clearly indicate a shift in mental setup of people – they are stressing on community level development for individual prosperity”. In the Janatar Darbar, the Chief Minister listened to complaints of 196 persons.
Sources said, Since early morning, people from far-flung areas under Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-division in North Tripura – from Bhandarima, Shantipur, Kalapani, Bishnupur, Khedachhera etc – started to assemble at Damchhera to attend the Janatar Darbar today. Out of total 196 persons, only two demanded jobs.
“We have urged the Chief Minister to set up a hospital in nearby area so that we and our children can easily avail good health care services”, said one indigenous woman of Bhandarima. Several persons of Kalapani and Khedachhera too raised similar demand.
One Jhum cultivator informed the Chief Minister that production in jhum cultivation was not good – so he urged Deb to raise monthly quota of 25 kg rice to 50 kg per month.
Several villagers also raised demand for maintenance on school building, arrangement of drinking water etc. Speaking to media, Biplab Kumar Deb said, no one complained lack of food and almost everyone stressed on holistic development of the society.
Janatar Darbar started at 11.30 am and continued till 2.30pm. During entire session, Chief Minister listened to demands of people and directed concerned officials to address the issues. Among others, Deputy speaker Biswabandhu Sen and officials were present in the Janatar Darbar.
