Former Nepal Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala passed away at his residense in Kathmandu in the wee hours Tuesday morning. According to family sources, Mr Koirala succumbed to Pneumonia at 12.50 a.m. He was 76 years old. He was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Mr Koirala was not able to attend formal events on Monday. He passed away in the midst of preparations for Nepali Congress General assembly, which is barely two weeks away, and was making every effort to retain the party leadership.
Expressing grief PM Narendra Modi tweeted, Sushil Koirala ji’s simplicity holds lessons for all of us. My condolences to the Koirala family & people of Nepal in this hour of grief. In his tweets, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, With Sushil Koirala ji’s demise Nepal has lost a powerful voice and a wonderful human being. My condolences to the bereaved Koirala family. The news of Sushil Koirala ji’s demise is deeply saddening. He was Nepal’s one of the most seasoned politician and also a true statesman.
