Agartala, December 16,  2019: After a weeklong shutdown and tension, a semblance of normalcy prevailed in Kanchanpur sub-division under North Tripura – the Nagarik Suraksha Manch today withdrew indefinite market strike with a rider. The announcement came after a meeting with the administration held in Kanchanpur today.

“We have withdrawn the indefinite Market
strike in Kanchanpur sub-division subject to
fulfillment of our charter of demands within
next 25 days”. Manch leaders told media.

In the core of demand list, there lies two significant demands – demand for carving out a vast land from existing Tribal Autonomous District Council area and repatriation of Bru refugees to their native place in Mizoram.

Sources said, Nagarik Suraksha Manch of Kanchanpur has demanded the land belonging to  Swasti Samabay Samiti to be carved out of the TTAADC area. Maharani Kanchan Prabha
Devi donated the land, spreading across 1000
drone in Kanchanpur sub-division, for settle-
ment of Bengali refugee people.

In a meeting with the administration today, Nagarik Manch and Bazar committee leaders strongly pitched in support of the demand, local sources said. Leaders also demanded immediate repatriation of Bru refugees from Kanchanpur.

Briefing about other charter of demands, Manch leaders said, there are three demands dealing with compensation and rehabilitation of victims of violence since 2000.

“Several nontribal traders came under large scale vandalism during anti-CAB strike – these victims must be adequately compensated. Secondly, compensation should also cover daily wage earners who lost man-days due to strike.
Also administration must provide rehabilitation to all the Bengali inhabitants who were victims of violence since 2000”, Manch leaders said.

Besides, Manch leaders also demanded identification of miscreants involved in
recent violence and punitive actions against
them as well as setting up of TSR camp at
Dasda-Anandabazar area.

Moreover, the Nagarik Suraksha Manch and
Bazar Committee members served an
ultimatum to administration regarding fulfilling the demands.

“The administration has to fulfill our demands
within 25 days – otherwise we will go for more intensive agitation”, Ranjit Nath and others said.

In the meeting, DM North Raval H Kumar, SP North Bhanupada Chakraborty, SDM Kanchanpur Abheydananda Baidya attended the meeting while Ranjit Nath, Diptendu Debnath and Bikas Das represented the Manch and president of Bazar Committee, Mohan Nath
and secretary of the Committee, Tabhlu Barua were present. The announcement has brought relief for common people across the sub-division.
