Agartala, December 24, 2019: Political clashes broke out between BJP and CPI-M supporters today at Udaipur under Gomati district in Tripura. The clash left at least 40 persons injured. Both the CPI-M and BJP pointed fingers at each other and blamed for the violence.
According to CPIM party leaders, BJP backed miscreants instigated the attack while a meeting of CPIM party was going on in front of the Jamtala party office of the party in Udaipur today.
“The BJP people attacked our public meeting just when we ended up. Miscreants rushed to the meeting spot from three sides so that nobody could escape” alleged former Minister and incumbent CPI-M MLA Ratan Bhowmik. CPI-M party sources claimed altogether 40 party workers have been admitted to hospital with injuries.
On the other hand, the BJYM, the youth wing of the ruling BJP held CPI-M responsible for the chaos. When contacted, BJYM leader Ajit Podder said, CPI-M supporters, while marching in the rally, attacked the BJYM workers with wooden faggots leaving some of the party supporters injured.
“Some CPI-M activists ran out of the rally and attacked BJP supporters with wooden sticks. Son of CPI-M leader Madhab Saha led the attack. The BJP party condemns such vehement attacks”, said Podder. A massive protest rally, by BJP, was also held in the evening condemning the incident.
Huge contingent of police, TSR and CRPF personnel have been deployed in the entire Udaipur region in order to thwart any law and order break. SP Gomati district himself visited the spot after the incident though the CPIM party expressed disappointment over the role of police.
