AAP’s victory is encouraging for secular forces, said Manik Sarkar. Democracy won in Delhi despite BJP’s multifaceted attack on people. Divisive politics defeated

Agartala, February 11, 2020 (IANS) Former Tripura Chief Minister and CPI-M politburo member Manik Sarkar on Tuesday described Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) victory in the Delhi Assembly polls as a “triumph over BJP’s multifaceted attack on the people”.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to win 62 out of the 70 seats in the national capital with the BJP poised to bag the remaining eight seats.

Manik Sarkar hails AAP

Describing AAP’s victory as an “encouraging development for the struggle of the secular forces against a communal force like the BJP”, Sarkar said the saffron party’s “all-out endeavours and conspiracies” to win significant electoral battles have been totally trashed by the ‘aam admi’ (common people) of Delhi.

“The AAP has been running its government in Delhi in the face of many challenges and obstacles posed by the BJP to provide good governance, including quality education, better health services, water supply and other basic necessities. Finally, the AAP has beaten the diverse challenges and conspiracies and returned to power with a resounding victory,” the veteran Left leader told the media.

Manik Sarkar slams BJP

Sarkar said the BJP was taught a lesson for its anti-people economic policies, mis-governance, destruction of democracy, unabated attack on education, students and youth besides the party’s failure to provide a minimum quantum of jobs to the unemployed people.

“Democracy has won in the country’s national capital. BJP is of late losing every poll. It shows the people of the country do not want divisive politics,” said Sarkar, who was the Chief Minister of Tripura for 20 years between 1998 and 2018.

Sarkar also accused the BJP of “snatching away people’s rights” and said that the secular forces would be encouraged to fight against communal forces like the BJP.

“The entire BJP leadership by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah tried to capture Delhi, but the people of the national capital gave a most befitting reply to them,” Sarkar said.
