The Covid isolation ward of GBP Hospital witnessed yet another tragic incident on Wednesday. A new born baby died at the isolation ward allegedly due to lack of medical attention. While family members of new born baby pointed fingers at the doctors, no officials were ready to comment on the allegation.
Based on the information provided by the family members, it was learnt one Rupali Begum gave birth to a baby in Bishalgarh sub-divisional hospital on Saturday last. Rupali was tested for Covid19 after the delivery and was found to be positive. For better Covid care of the new born baby and mother, Bishalgarh Sub-divisional Hospital authority sent them to GBP Hospital. However, contrary to the exception, no doctor visited the mother and baby at the GB Isolation ward after they were admitted, alleged Rupali Begum’s relatives. They added, the baby died Wednesday morning at around 4 am.
Rupali’s mother-in-law said, “After my daughter-in-law was brought here with her newborn in GBP Hospital, no doctor attended them, no medical help was provided to them. When I asked the doctors for help, they kept sending me from table to table. Today morning, Rupali called me and said that the baby was lying still in her arms and another patient told her that baby was dead.”
Elaborating further, Rupali’s younger brother alleged at 5pm in the evening, “My sister is still holding her deceased baby (at 5 pm) and nobody has attended her. When I asked for their discharge, the hospital administration came with inexplicable reply – they told me that they were unable to do so as there was no admit report available to them.”
Just as allegations and mismanagement at GB Hospital are regularly hitting the news headlines, Rupali’s brother and mother-in-law, once again, blamed the hospital doctors and health administration for the death of the baby and the distressing condition of Rupali. As the number of Covid19 patients is swelling, inefficacy of the health department is getting exposed and people are dying without any treatment, alleged Rupali’s brother.
