As the GBP Hospital continues to draw flaks for its alleged lapses and mismanagement, Political clamour over the handling of Covid19 situation is gaining momentum. After Congress, main opposition of the State, CPM flayed the Government for improper planning, identification of patients and improper treatment, especially at GBP Hospital. The CPM held State Government’s inefficacy as one of the prime reasons behind the ongoing chaotic COVID situation in Tripura.
In an elaborated statement issued today by senior leader Haripada Das at the end of yesterday’s state committee meeting which was held through video conferencing, CPM also highlighted alleged lack of trust among the people on State Health care system.
“What is the most worrying factor is that people are fast losing faith on the services of GBP hospital and reportedly, patients are now unwilling to seek admission to hospital. Need of the hour is to restore faith of people through efficient management of the system”, the statement read.
The statement also referred to suggestions made by the leader of the opposition, Manik Sarkar, in all-party meet and claimed that suggestions were not followed or implemented.
“We made several appeals relating to Covid19 and suggested intensified testing to trace Covid19 positive patients. We also urged Government to expand testing facilities in every district Hospital and create Covid19 treatment facilities separately at sub-divisional level. Manik Sarkar, in all–party meeting, suggested several remedial steps to combat Coronavirus. Unfortunately, Government did not pay attention and people are suffering”, the statement mentioned.
CPM also demanded strict adherence to the guideline issued by Centre and ICMR and addressing the manpower shortage through recruitment of doctors, nurses and auxiliary staff.
The CPI (M) state committee also expressed serious concern about problem of lay-offs, free fall in GDP and rising unemployment in the country due to Covid19 outbreak. In view of the current situation, CPM demanded an amount of 10kgs of rice and monthly cash grant of Rs 7500.00 for all non-income tax-paying families.
In addition poor families should be given work under MGNREGA and TUEP to help them tide over food crisis and problems of livelihood. Apart from this, the CPI (M) also called for special measures to assist the farmers at this time of crisis. CPM also raised demand for recruitment of retrenched 10,323 teachers.
Referring to attacks on party activists and their families by miscreants during statewide programme on August 26, CPM demanded arrest of all the culprits involved in the attacks.
